Appendix-1

The balance of coaching contents and duration of training session

It is a clear fact that the coaching contents such as basic skills, techniques, speed, and combination are of vital importance to Japanese coaches and even Asian coaches while physical and mental works, system, tactics, strategy are main and fundamental to European and American coaches. In Europe, since physical and mental works are considered as the most important filed to work before an athlete specialize one sport, a coach can easily focus and concentrate on fundamental skill, techniques, systems and so forth. In comparison to Asian athletes, the athletes in Europe know what to work first, and how to work physically and mentally in connection with fundamental skills, techniques, and systems and so on in right order. Once again the athletes in Europe are more independent in aspect of physical and mental training or development than the ones in Asia. When I observe Japanese or Asian training, it is absolutely unbalanced as far as training contents and intensity of the each content, and in addition, it is absolutely long as far as training time concerned. No European athlete can adapt the way of Japanese training. Because they always seek a clear objective in the each training and they do always perform at their maximum level. It is not only their education and mentality but also coach's demands.
