The detection from football

Many people still remember about the FIFA Confederations Cup in June 2005 in Germany. We were impressed with the comments of the Japanese national players. They respect not only developing techniques but also raising consciousness by each of them. We sympathize with their way of thinking. The comments have proven their �gprofessionalism�h that most of them do have. In the football world in Japan, the environment surrounding athletes and coaches has reached �gthe professional level�h generating significant difference from other sports including the volleyball society.

The football society in Japan has the environment for learning and coaching their own sport, which has worldwide communications. The information demanded by Japanese coaches are provided through the foreign coaches those belong to the J-League teams, and this system seems to fit into young football athletes. The era in which most coaches had concentrated on only spirit, gut, stimulating that we used to see has been over. The attitude of trying to figure out how to make your own athletes concentrate on training with high level of consciousness should be the critical element to get success in the future on the international stage.

Discovery from the gap

After looking back on my coaching, it was a true that I did give all the instructions to the National players and staffs according to and based on my experiences in Japan and USA. However I realized that my instruction or coaching methods was not suitable and appropriate for French education and mentality, which were so different from the ones in USA and Japan. Failure and resurge

Another occurrence in France after staying in 7 years in USA and 2 years in Switzerland, I was in a totally different position from USA to manage one of the France National teams and two professional teams. It was much heavier roles than USA for me because my position was attached to French Sports Ministry to develop the national sports programs.

Understanding and Respecting

As well known that a country has its own culture, history, education, mentality, language and so on, I have faced so many different ones and learned various things from the many different countries. Needless to say, I came across culture shocks especially in USA and France for the first time visit. It was extremely difficult to adapt the way of living due to my communication skill/language so I just concentrated on learning how to communicate without mastering basic grammar. As the result, I realized naturally that understanding and respecting one country were extremely important key, no matter what, to succeed in living, learning, communicating, coaching, teaching, managing and so forth in the different country.read more...
